Submission to what?

One of the most beautiful sounds I have ever heard was a simple song, sung by someone completely humbling themselves. I don’t need the music to be perfect and loud. I want a surrendered heart. Worship is bowing before God, humbling yourself. Submission. What does it mean to submit?

To accept or yield to a superior force or to the authority or will of another

Yield. Give up the fight. I can’t win this fight, but I know God is bigger and stronger. He does not lose. Here God- I give up and yield myself, submit myself.

Step 1- I admit that I am powerless over my dependencies and that my life has become unmanageable.

Before you will submit, you need to accept that you need to. I am not God. There are things in this world that are stronger than I am. It is the realization that there is more than you.

Step 2- I believe that God can return me to sanity and help me follow His plan.

Who are you submitting to? What is your higher power? Without the power of God behind your attempts at a better life, you are left only to your own strength.

Here’s a thought from a man grounded in the twelve step program:

Every bit of the AA program is entirely Jesus teaching. I’d like to see someone line up the AA teachings and philosophy with any other text. Every other religion is based on self will power or works while the gospel is entire dependence on the grace of God and his work within us.

Did this challenge your thinking? Good.

Step 3- I turn my will and life over to God’s care.

If you submit to any other power, where will that lead you? Do you worship an unknown new age belief in yourself, or do you bow before the Jesus who has the power to save you?

Why is this so important?

Think about it. You depended on yourself before. I know in my story, it did not end well. Before you can really and truly recover, you have to yield. I see many people try and try to change without submitting. It doesn’t work.

If you are working the steps, there is a reason they are numbered. It is good wisdom, Godly wisdom. Take the time to do the first three steps right. Submit and give up the fight. then, and only then, will you be ready to do the heart work in the rest of the steps.

This, my friends, is the beginning of true worship.

From now on, worshiping the Father will not be a matter of the right place but with a right heart. For God is a Spirit, and he longs to have sincere worshipers who adore him in the realm of the Spirit and in truth.” ( John 4:23-24, TPT)
