Embrace the power of salvation’s full deliverance, like a helmet to protect your thoughts from lies. (Ephesians 6:18, TPT)
Save me O God! I am about to drown! Is that the meaning of salvation?
What does that word mean to you? Salvation? In the Christian faith, salvation is the foundation for our relationship with God. The literal definition of the word is to be saved from harm. I believe salvation is the key to everything.
Imagine you are lost at sea. A storm approaches and begins to rock your boat mercilessly. There is no land in sight, and your boat capsizes. With nothing to hold onto, the eventual truth is that you will drown. You are lost.
As the storm was thrashing you in the water, you had no one to call out to. There was no one there who could save you or pull you to safety. It was too late to ask for help.
In life, we sometimes find ourselves in a storm. We begin to call out for help! Save me! I’m drowning! Although we know that God can intervene and pull us to safety, His intent is for us to be saved before the storm even hits!
Acts 4:12 – “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” (NIV)
From the beginning of time, God gave us a plan to save us from harm. He knew we needed it. Rom. 3:23 tells us that we all have sinned, we all fall short of the glory of God. We are not perfect. I think we all can accept that. Rom 6:23 goes on to say that there is a price that must be paid for this according to the law. That price is death.
Jesus was God’s plan. He became our payment for being imperfect. He is our salvation. All we are required to do is make the choice to believe that. Salvation does not happen by accident. It does not evolve, it is not passed down through your family. We are given a choice. Believe and be saved.
Ephesians 6 takes this a step further. How do we embrace salvation’s deliverance? Other translations simply say Put on the helmet of salvation. To embrace something is to grab hold of it. Do more than just believe! Grab hold of the truth about God’s salvation and wear it like a helmet. It will cover your mind with truth. Your choice to be saved will become your protection.
I have heard so many people share their stories, how their lives have been changed by God. What I want to hear is how salvation’s deliverance changed your life!
There must be a day and a time that you made the choice. Think for yourself – when was it? How long ago? Where were you? I know exactly where and when I made the choice. It rocked my entire world!
The storms we face today include addiction, violence, crisis, trauma and so much more. We cannot wait until the waves are destroying our ship to call out and be saved. It may be too late. Have you made the choice to embrace salvation’s deliverance?
I am tired of assuming that those around me get this truth – they will not just magically be saved from harm unless they are given the choice. Its possible that they don’t understand this yet – but they will, if I have anything to do with it!
