All you can do in one day is not enough.
If you are like me, there are just not enough hours in the day to do everything you want to do. Some days it feels like my brain is overwhelmed trying to think it all through!
Matthew 6:34 in the Message says:
Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.
Our responsibility is just to do our best for today. Fear of the unknown, of tomorrow, can cripples us. We lose sight of what God is doing today. Fear not is the most repeated command in the Bible! Why? Because God knew that fear is the one thing that could keep us down.
Live life today. Do your best. That’s all you can do.
We try. We wear ourselves out. We fail. We succeed.
And life goes on.
In the book of Revelations, at the end of the Bible, we find a series of letters to the churches. Towards the end of each one the Lord had John write:
To the one who overcomes…
To the one who conquers…
To the one who is victorious…
God knew that no matter who we are, no matter what stage of maturity we are in, times would get hard. This world just isn’t easy! People die, they lie, we struggle, we get hurt. Sometimes, no matter what we do- it’s not enough. We struggle in fear of the what-ifs, the unknown tomorrows. We stay down.
We have to get up.
Overcoming and conquering require us to get up and live. Our only requirement from God is to love. To live and to love. We are commanded to love the Lord our God with all our heart. He also tells us to love one another. Our responsibility is just to do those things. If we do that with all our heart, the other “stuff” will work its way out.
Life may get worse. Yes, I hate that too. It doesn’t have to beat us though. We can overcome. How?
Live. Love. Repeat.
