Round and around and around you go. It never seems to change. One battle after the other. Why? Why the endless circle of chaos?
You are blind. You need to open your eyes to see.
Do you know who you belong to? We all belong to someone. We either belong to the dark or we belong to the light.
Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. ( Psalm 100:3)
If you are a child of God, a believer, a Christian- you belong to God. You are the sheep for the Great Shepherd. We belong, not a slaves, but as sons and daughters. We are filled with the Spirit of God – the very essence of who He is! He is light, He is love, He is power!
But- we have been given a choice to allow our true selves to be free.
There are a great many people who belong to God, but are blind to that freedom. They live as if they belong to the darkness….
That sounds terrible- like it is some evil monster. Consider this:
“ The biggest lie is that fear will keep you safe in the darkness, but fear is the darkness. So round and round you go, fighting darkness with darkness. Better to open your eyes and see the light. In that light, there is no darkness. So you’ve always been safe. You just don’t know it because you are blind to who you are as the light.” (Dekker, 232)
Ted Dekker is a fabulous author who uses fiction to illustrate deep spiritual truths. What if, as he presents, the true danger comes when we remain blinded to the truth of who we are? We are filled with God who is light. We hold within us light! We belong to the light!
The truth we all know about light is that darkness and light cannot coexist. When you turn on a light- darkness vanishes.
This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. (1 John 1:5)
Who do you belong to? Who are you believing is in control? If you are living with fear- there is darkness. Drugs, pain, trauma- darkness. All created by the king of lies to blind you to prevent you from opening your eyes to see who you are.
Darkness and light cannot coexist. But we live as if they can!
A young man stands alone on a hill. He is surrounded by enemies on all sides. They have their arrows pointed at his heart. Ready, aim, fire- the archers send them straight for their target. The young man opens his eyes, sees the arrows and with one word shatters them in midair.
STOP!
The arrows fall to the ground.
The young man stood in the authority of the king. He looked around, waiting. The archers reloaded.
LEAVE!
Suddenly the air around him cleared and a smile crept onto his face. He knew the king would be pleased.
How was this young man able to command the arrows to stop? He was only a man, after all. The answer lies in the eyes. His eyes were wide open to the truth of who he was. He belonged to the king and therefore carried the full authority of the one He served. The archers , and their arrows, had no choice but to obey!
If we would only learn to walk with eyes wide open, we could tell those mountains to fall into the sea and they would obey! We could tell that fear to leave and we would see joy! We carry the authority of God! We carry light and the darkness cannot overcome it!
Recovery begins when you open your eyes to see the light. It is possible. As a child of God, you are not powerless. You are a child of light!
