World vs the one

With all that has happened in the world this year, it seems our focus has shifted from the person to the world. We fight for a cause, we pray for a move to go our way- and miss the person we could help today.

Don’t get me wrong, its important to pray for what we believe. The Lord does care about our world. But – He cares more about the one than the cause.

“But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” (1 Sam 16:7, ESV)

When we were forced to shelter in place, we were isolated. Support systems struggled to continue, online is just not the same. People were afraid, and many have not recovered. Mental health problems have increased, along with relapse and overdose. We have problems of the heart.

Restoration and freedom took a back seat to politics.

We have to get back to seeing “ the one.”

God works in mysterious ways! One night, I received a phone call on my personal cell number. It was from out of state- I have been getting so many scam calls that I stopped answering unless I know the number. For some reason- I decided to answer this one.

“Hello? Are you a support group? I am looking for someone to talk to.”

This was a God- thing. I still don’t know how she got my personal number. I always use my ministry number when I post online. Our website even has the ministry number!

This young lady was in NJ and needed support. Meetings were still shut down. I had the opportunity to talk and pray with her- God gave me a chance to help this one, on that night. She made it through that night, would she have if I had not answered?

The Scripture in 1 Samuel reminds me that sometimes we need to look past what we think or see. Are you so focused on the world that you stopped looking around you? I get it- we are busy. My week has been flooded with virtual teaching and meeting after meeting. I will not let this distract me from seeing the one who just needs to talk. God sees the heart- the person themselves. He saw this woman’s heart as well. Who is “the one” in your path?

Hearts are hurting, lives are being lost or damaged.

That one person needs someone.

Is it you?
