Think about it

These words are stuck in my mind. They pop up in conversations, reading, prayers. Last week I heard someone talk about recovery and how nothing matters until you are ready for it. “When you’re ready, I will be here. When you’re ready, you will take that step.”

It is such a simple yet profound statement. No one can make you change. No one can make you recover. We just are not that powerful!

Looking at it from another angle- you cannot make him relapse. You cannot make him use. You are not that powerful.

When you’re ready.

There is a story in the Bible about a man who decided he was ready. A prophetess named Deborah called him so that she could deliver a message from God.

She said to him, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, commands you: Call out 10,000 warriors from the tribes of Naphtali and Zebulun at Mount Tabor. And I will call out Sisera, commander of Jabin’s army, along with his chariots and warriors, to the Kishon River. There I will give you victory over him.” (Judges4:6-7)

I don’t know, but Barak didn’t seem too prepared for that. In that moment, he had to make choice.

He decided he was ready, but with reservations. He would only go if Deborah went with him.

It’s ok to want support!

Barak made the choice to obey and Deborah went with him. I can almost hear her saying…

When you’re ready Barak, when you’re ready!

The men prepared for battle and the Lord began to move.

Get ready! This is the day the Lord will give you victory over Sisera, for the Lord is marching ahead of you.” ( v. 14)

Barak was there, but I think Deborah knew he was afraid. Get ready Barak! You made the choice, now you will see what God can do!

When Barak attacked, the Lord threw Sisera and all his chariots and warriors into a panic. (v 15)

In the end, Barak and his men saw the victory but another woman named Jael got the credit. No matter, It was victory.

What are you thinking right now? Get ready? When I’m ready? I’m not ready?
