I do not like change. I am happy when life is stable, unchanging, familiar. This morning I realized that I constantly work to bring change. How ironic!
Change can be terrifying. I have seen people refuse to get help just because it is change. Sometimes it feels like God is constantly asking us to change- change our thoughts, change our behavior, change our direction. He seems to be a God of change- well , yes and no.
2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Rom 12:2)
God does not change. Ever.
He is always faithful, always true, always good. He does not need to grow, He is already complete. I can count on the consistency of who He is.
Me, on the other hand, I need to grow. I need to be redirected and changed. I make mistakes and neglect to do things that I know I should do. If I was left to myself, I would attach myself to this world and never change.
It’s a good thing He doesn’t leave me alone!
Be transformed- be changed. This is our calling. The Lord simply asks us to be willing to change.
This morning I could see how the Lord has made me to be someone who brings change. When we come face to face with truth, it will change us. Recovery is change. Healing is change. Hope leads us to change! As I thought about this, I felt the fear start to rise. No! I hate change!
This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes. ( Rom 12:2b TPT)
I will keep changing. I will keep trying to help others change, because change is how we recover. It is how we are empowered to live the life God has for us. He wants to give us all the beautiful, satisfying, full life that we were born to live.
Many of you will agree with me that change is terrifying. We run from it, we do everything possible to avoid it. We have to stop.
If we are ever going to move forward in recovery, we have to accept that change is part of the process. We will not always be comfortable with it- that’s ok!
What area of your life needs to change? Do you need a new place to live? Move.
Are you in an unhealthy relationship? Ask for help and get rid of it.
Do you need to stop unhealthy behaviors? Stop using, stop lying about it? Ask for help and make the change.
Do you need to heal? Do you need to forgive? God is listening right now.
I know for certain that God loves change- He loves it when we turn from ourselves and give our lives to Him. He loves us so much that He will do anything to see us changed. He loves you so much that He will NEVER stop bringing change into your life. That’s called HOPE!
Will you let Him work?
